FAQ

Pest control FAQ

Answers to the questions Detroit-area homeowners ask most: before booking, during service, and after.

Pricing & booking

Before you book

How much does pest control cost?

RIDD's plans start at $49 per month for quarterly pest control (Pest 4). Bi-monthly service (Pest 6) starts at $69 per month. RIDD Package 4, which bundles quarterly general pest, rodent, and mosquito control, starts at $89 per month. Pricing is the same across the entire service area. No travel fees.

Do I need an inspection before booking?

No. For general pest control and most targeted services, we assess the property during the first visit. If you're dealing with a heavy German roach infestation or significant rodent activity, we may recommend a quick phone consultation first to set the right expectations.

Is pest control safe for kids and pets?

Yes. The products we use are EPA-registered for residential use. For most treatments, you'll keep kids and pets out of treated areas until the product dries, typically 30 to 60 minutes. We tell you exactly what was applied before we leave.

Do I need to be home during treatment?

For exterior-only visits, no. For interior treatments, we need access to the relevant areas. We confirm what's needed when you book.

How quickly can you get someone out?

Most new customers are scheduled within 2 to 5 business days. For urgent situations (active rodent activity, a heavy roach infestation), call us and we'll work to move faster.

What's your satisfaction guarantee?

If pests return between your scheduled visits, we come back and re-treat at no charge. The guarantee covers all plans and all services. No conditions.

What's the difference between Pest 4 and Pest 6?

Pest 4 is quarterly: four visits per year, one every three months. Pest 6 is bi-monthly: six visits per year, once every two months. Bi-monthly is tighter coverage and better suited for homes with active infestations, older construction, or higher pest pressure (wooded lots, near water, basement moisture).

Do you service commercial properties?

Yes. Commercial pricing is quoted per property; we don't publish a rate sheet for commercial accounts. Call us to discuss your situation.

Your visit

During your service visit

What products do you use for pest control?

We use EPA-registered products approved for residential use. We walk you through what was applied during every visit.

How long does a pest control visit take?

Most visits take 30 to 60 minutes, depending on property size and whether interior access is needed. Your technician can give a more specific estimate when they arrive.

How should I prepare for a visit?

For exterior-only treatments, nothing is required. For interior treatment, clear items away from baseboards, under sinks, and behind appliances in affected areas. We send specific prep instructions when you schedule.

Do I need to leave during treatment?

For most treatments, no. We'll let you know in advance if any part of the visit requires you to vacate temporarily.

Will I get the same pest control technician each time?

We aim for consistency. RIDD tries to send the same technician on your repeat visits so your service history doesn't reset and the tech already knows the property.

After service

After your treatment

How soon will I see results from pest control?

For most pests, you'll see a reduction within a few days. German roach treatments take 1 to 2 weeks to fully work as the bait cycles through the colony. More roach activity in the first 48 hours is normal. Rodent control timelines depend on the severity and how quickly entry points can be identified and sealed.

What if pests come back between visits?

Call us and we'll schedule a free re-service. The 100% satisfaction guarantee covers re-treatments between scheduled visits. No conditions.

How often does pest control happen on a plan?

Pest 4 visits every three months (4 visits per year). Pest 6 visits every two months (6 visits per year). RIDD Package 4 follows the Pest 4 schedule for general pest and rodent control, with mosquito treatments timed to the season, approximately April through October. You'll get a reminder before every visit.

Identifying pests

How do I know if I have German roaches?

German roaches are small, about half an inch, tan to brown with two dark stripes running from behind the head. Look near heat and moisture: under the stove, inside cabinet hinges, behind the refrigerator. Seeing them during the day means the infestation is established. They're not the same as the large outdoor cockroach that occasionally wanders inside.

How do I tell carpenter ants from regular ants?

Carpenter ants are larger, up to half an inch, typically black or black with red segments, appearing near moisture-damaged wood. They hollow out wood to nest; they don't eat it. Regular house ants are smaller and more likely trailing a food source. Both are covered under RIDD's general pest plan.

General Pest Control
How do I know if I have moles or voles?

Moles push up volcano-shaped mounds and create raised tunnel ridges just under the turf. Voles leave shallow, open runways at ground level and gnaw on plant roots and stems. Both are active in Metro Detroit yards. RIDD treats both. If you're not sure which you have, we'll identify it on the first visit.

Mole Control
How do I know if I have mice or rats?

Mouse droppings are rice-grain sized. Rat droppings are larger, roughly the size of a raisin. Mice enter through gaps as small as a dime; rats need a larger opening. Scratching sounds in walls or ceilings at night typically indicate rodent activity.

Rodent Control
What's biting me in my yard: mosquitoes, ticks, or fleas?

Mosquito bites appear on exposed skin within minutes of being outside, usually as a raised welt. Flea bites cluster around the ankles and lower legs, especially if you have pets. Tick bites are often painless. You find the tick attached, usually after several hours outdoors. Regular yard biting from any of the three is worth treating.

Mosquito, Tick & Flea Control
Do I have termites?

RIDD does not offer termite control in the Detroit market. Signs of termites include mud tubes along the foundation, discarded wings near windows or doors, and wood that sounds hollow when tapped. If you suspect termites, contact a licensed termite specialist.
