Ant Control
Ant Problems End Here.
RIDD delivers targeted ant control that eliminates the colony, not just the ants you can see. Guaranteed results across the Detroit metro area.
The problem
Why Ants Are Harder to Get Rid of Than You Think
The ants you see on your counter are scouts. The colony, which can number in the tens of thousands, is somewhere in your walls, foundation, or yard. Kill the scouts and the colony sends more. Spray the trail and you scatter them deeper into your home.
Michigan's older housing stock, humid basements, and seasonal weather swings create ideal conditions for several ant species. By the time most homeowners call us, the colony has been established for months.
The solution
How RIDD Gets Rid of Ants for Good
We don't just treat the surface. RIDD's ant control targets the colony itself using a combination of baiting systems, perimeter treatments, and interior applications tailored to the species we identify in your home.
We also treat the eaves of your home. Most pest control companies skip this. Ants regularly use rooflines as an entry point, especially carpenter ants. Our guarantee covers everything: if ants return between visits, we come back free of charge.
Local species
Common Ants in the Detroit Metro Area
Michigan is home to several ant species that regularly invade homes. Here are the ones we treat most often.
-
Carpenter Ants
Carpenter ants tunnel through wood to build their nests, causing structural damage to beams, window frames, and door headers. They thrive in damp or water-damaged wood, making older Michigan homes a prime target. Left untreated, colonies spread satellite nests throughout the structure and the damage adds up fast.
-
Pavement Ants
Pavement ants nest in cracks in your driveway, sidewalk, and foundation, then send steady trails inside looking for food and water. Once they find a way in, they don't stop coming. They take over kitchens and bathrooms quickly, and the colony outside keeps sending more.
-
Odorous House Ants
Odorous house ants invade in large numbers after rain and are nearly impossible to get rid of on your own. Their colonies have multiple queens, so killing part of the colony causes it to split into new ones. Store-bought sprays actually make the problem worse.
-
Pharaoh Ants
Pharaoh ants are tiny, pale, and one of the most difficult household ants to eliminate. Like odorous house ants, they have multiple queens and respond to sprays by budding into new colonies throughout your home. They are commonly found in kitchens and bathrooms.
-
Field Ants
Field ants build large mounds in lawns and gardens and occasionally forage indoors for sweets and protein. They can bite when disturbed and are frequently confused with carpenter ants due to their similar size and color.

Common questions
Ant Control FAQs
How do I know if I have carpenter ants or regular ants?
Carpenter ants are significantly larger than most household ants, usually a quarter to half an inch long and typically black or dark brown. The biggest tell is frass: small piles of fine wood shavings near baseboards, window frames, or door headers. If you're finding frass, call us. The sooner a carpenter ant issue is caught, the less damage they do.
Why do ants keep coming back after I spray?
Over-the-counter sprays kill the ants you can see but don't reach the colony. With some species, spraying causes the colony to split into new ones, making the problem worse. Professional baiting targets the colony itself, which is the only reliable long-term solution.
Is ant treatment safe for kids and pets?
Yes. The products we use are designed to be safe for families and pets when applied as directed. We'll walk you through any precautions during your first visit, but in most cases there's zero disruption to your routine.
What if ants come back between treatments?
We come back. Every RIDD plan includes our 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you see ants between scheduled visits, call us and we'll re-service your home at no extra charge.
